Lamborghinis and Ferraris seized by Dubai Police in crackdown on racing

Lamborghini, Ferrari and Corvette supercars worth millions of dirhams were among 60 vehicles seized from speeding motorists involved in races on public roads in just one weekend, Dubai Police said.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Muzaina, the head of the force, said that officers seized more than 60 cars and motorbikes that were being driven in a “dangerous” fashion and at excessive speed.

The supercars were just some of the vehicles seized during the operation, which was aimed at targeting motorists who were driving dangerously on roads in Jumeirah and on Meydan Street, Al Mamzar, Al Khawanij, Al Mezhar and the university street near the Dubai – Al Ain road.

“Although we have tough punishments – like seizing vehicles for a month and fines – motorists, especially teenagers, are still racing on the roads and endangering the lives of other road users,” Al Muzaina said.

“They cause chaos from organized, dangerous racing. If any motorist caused an accident during these races then it would become a criminal case – not just a traffic violation.”
Al Muzaina reiterated that Dubai’s roads are not made for reckless driving – and that there are special places for racing, such as official tracks.

“We not banning hobbies like racing – but teenagers should race in special places that have the necessary safety conditions, not on public roads,” he said.
