A teenager has died after being run over by a car in the same
spot where his mother was killed three years ago in a similar accident.
Prosecutor Salah Bu Farousha Al Felasi, head of Dubai traffic prosecution, said the death of the 14-year-old Asian teenager in a traffic accident was a sad coincidence.
“On June 20, 2011, a 50-year-old Asian mother was killed in an accident at a junction in Abu Hail area in Deira. She was standing on the pavement when a vehicle hit another car, which then crashed into the woman and killed her on the spot,” said Al Felasi.
“Now in 2014, the son of the deceased died in a similar accident at the same junction,” he told Arabic newspaper Emarat Al Youm. He said that on March 30, the teen was riding his bicycle across the pedestrian crossing when a car hit him. He died in hospital on Friday. Al Felasi said initial reports showed both the boy and the driver were at fault in the accident.
“The boy crossed the wrong way, and the driver wasn’t paying attention to the road. Investigations are still ongoing before the case is sent to traffic
prosecution,” Al Felasi said.
“The family lives in a house near the junction, and we are questioning witnesses and checking CCTV. It’s very sad for the boy’s family to lose two members in a similar way,” he added.
